Why Are China and Russia Buying So Much Gold? Just don’t make the mistake of thinking this is all routine

A larger global currency shift is underway…

And it may be happening much more quickly than anyone has realized.

Things are definitely in motion. Call it a game of musical chairs, or an exercise in rearranging chairs on the Titanic, or just that a tilting balance of power. Just don’t make the mistake of thinking this is all routine.

The People’s Bank of China has added about 100 tons of gold to its reserves since December. Russia has bought 106 tons of the precious metal this year.

“They can read the writing on the wall,” Euro Pacific Capital CEO Peter Schiff told FOX Business, adding that the two countries are “preparing for the world where the dollar is no longer the reserve currency.”

China’s gold reserves now stand at more than 1,950 tons, Bloomberg says. Russia has more than 2,200 tons, and has the fifth-largest stockpile by country.

This presentation PROOVES WITHOUT DOUBT that America is in for a major fight that will put you and your family in the firing line, literally… So make sure you watch this presentation while it’s still online…

Beijing’s gold purchases, which amount to 100 tons since December, come as it has been less aggressively buying Treasurys amid the U.S-China trade war. In June, China fell behind Japan as the world’s largest holder of U.S. debt, a title it had held since May 2017.

Meanwhile, Russia has more than quadrupled its reserves over the past decade amid its promise to break its reliance on the U.S. dollar. Russia’s central bank has bought 106 tons so far this year, according to Bloomberg.

Trade war uncertainty and worries about the health of the global economy have helped propel gold prices to their highest level in six years. The precious metal is up almost 18 percent this year and last month hit $1,550 an ounce for the first time since April 2013.

If you are not watching the central banks, you could be making a big mistake. Central banks could be the catalyst that sends the price of gold surging.

You see, after the 1970s, central banks bought into the idea that the U.S. dollar was the savior of the global financial system. They rushed to buy the greenback like there was no tomorrow.

After the financial crisis of 2008–2009, it became very clear to central banks that the U.S. dollar isn’t as secure as they were told it would be.

During that time, the central banks’ reserves became very volatile, and that’s the last thing they want to see. They are their respective nations’ bankers and protectors of wealth. Volatile reserves mean a volatile currency and wealth destruction.

So central banks started to look for an alternative in order to reduce the volatility of their reserves. They understood very clearly that gold was the best choice.

Since 2010, central banks have been net buyers of gold. In 2018, they bought the most gold they have in 50 years. In 2019, they have also been on a very high note. It wouldn’t be surprising if their gold buying this year surpasses their 2018 numbers.

Who Needs More Gold?

The big question: which central banks are buying gold?

Here’s the thing: back in the 1970s, when the U.S. dollar was in favor, the major central banks never really sold their gold. They kept a lot of it and continue to hold it.

It was the small central banks that rushed to buy the U.S. dollar. Now it’s those same central banks looking to accumulate gold. They will need a lot of gold to diversify their reserves.

Two of the central banks that shouldn’t be ignored are China and Russia. They need a lot of gold.

China has been stepping into the gold market at an astonishing pace. Between December 2018 and September 2019, China’s central bank purchased 100 tons of the yellow metal. (Source: “China’s Gold-Buying Spree Tops 100 Tons During Trade War,” Bloomberg, October 6, 2019.)

The Chinese central bank went quiet for some time after 2009, but since 2015, it has been active. Also, its actions have been very loud and clear: it doesn’t care about where gold prices are; it just wants more gold.

Russia has been very active in the gold market as well. Its gold stash currently amounts to close to $110.0 billion. (Source: “Russia’s Massive Gold Stash Is Now Worth More Than $100Bln,” The Moscow Times, September 9, 2019.)

The country has been one of the most consistent gold buyers for a while. The Russian central bank has been increasing its gold holdings each month for several years.

Great News for Gold Bulls

Dear reader, you won’t find much in the mainstream media about central banks buying gold. Why? Because it’s not “hot.” I think this is one of the most ignored stories out there.

Mark my words, central banks are buying record amounts of gold. They will not stop anytime soon, and they could send the price of gold surging.

You have to understand, central banks are a major and growing source of demand in the gold market at a time when the supply side is struggling. This is a perfect recipe for higher gold prices.

Over the past few years—in fact, since 2015—the price of gold has increased a lot. As central banks remain in the gold market, gold prices could jump further. Patience is required, and long-term investors could be rewarded very well by the yellow precious metal.

Nuclear Prepping On Fast Forward: 10 Cheap & Easy To-Dos

Iran doesn’t have the power to wipe out the United States. They can take a lot of lives and make us uncomfortable, but they won’t be able to destroy us.

Our nation still faces a nuclear crisis; and it may come right from our own nuclear power plants.

No matter what nation you look at these days, there are hackers that can turn our power plants against us. This is an imminent threat that can disburse lethal radiation to just about every corner of our nation.

If you have been putting off nuclear prepping because it seems useless or expensive, then you may be wondering if there is something you can do right away. Keep reading to find out!

Here are 10 things you can do in just a few minutes to 48 hours to secure your survival in the outer bands of a nuclear crisis zone from the time the event occurs to 5 days past the main event.

Know Where the Nuclear Shelters are in Your Area

One of the first things you should do is find out where the local blast shelters and fallout shelters are located. You can try doing a web search for this information in relation to your local area, and also ask at your town or city clerk’s office.

Since the United States has become remarkably lax in this area, you may not get any viable answers.

If you find that you cannot get the address and information on a viable nuclear shelter, then start looking around for places that might make a viable shelter in time of need. Old brick churches, schools, or other sturdy buildings with solid basements might be of some use.

Do not overlook underground parking garages or other places where you can put a lot of heavy material between you and the radiation. If you find a viable place, but no plans have been made to store water, food, and other supplies, now might be a good time to approach the owner and get some volunteer efforts going in that direction.

Given the current state of the news, you may find people are more amenable to these ideas than they would have been even a year ago.

Have a Plan for Getting Underground and Test It

It is often said that most people living in a city will be doomed if a nuclear bomb is detonated. On the other hand, if the city buildings survive, there is every chance the lower and underground levels of the buildings may be suitable for a fallout shelter.

Therefore, if you live in a city, locate at least five buildings with basements that you can get into quickly in a time of need. Try to space out the buildings so that you can get to them in under five minutes on foot.

If you have to approach a building owner or superintendent to make these arrangements, do not forget to add extra supplies. Unfortunately, people can become very untrustworthy in a time of need, however you may still find others that will honor their agreements.

No matter whether you live in a rural area or a location in the city where you can dig into the ground, build a small fallout shelter that you can reach in a matter of minutes. There are several resources online that you can use for starter plans to build everything from a foxhole design to larger ones.

When building your shelter, you must make sure you have at least 3 feet (6 – 7 feet is better if you can manage it) of well packed soil around you and above you. Just remember to make sure there is also enough room in the shelter to store at least 5 days of water, food, and anything you may decide to take along to another area.

If you are looking to build the shelter in less than 24 hours, you can also add a vent shaft, however the air will need to be pulled in through a MIRV 16 filter or better in order to remove as much radioactive dust as possible.

Be Able to Calculate When and Where to Go

As soon as you find out there is a nuclear blast and that you are in the radiation zone, get underground or put as much material between you and the blast site as possible. When you find the safest possible shelter, you’ll need to stay there for about 5 days.

When it comes to short term, fast prepping for a nuclear disaster, you will find the time after this much more challenging. Even though the most immediate threats from heavy doses of radiation will be over, you must still contend with all the contaminated things in your area. This includes food, water, tools, and anything else that would normally be of use in time of need.

Insofar as where to go after emerging from your blast/fallout shelter, it will depend largely on where the blast occurred and what else is going on in surrounding areas.

If you are dealing with a single nuclear power plant, you must know where the radioactive fallout is most likely to be carried by wind and water currents. Heading away from the projected fallout zone will be your best bet.

Make sure you know where all the nuclear power plants are within a 500 mile radius of locality. Some college campuses also have nuclear reactors for research purposes, so make sure that you know where those are in case they also get hacked.

Listen to the radio and find out what other areas are contaminated so that you have a better chance of picking a safe area. Take geographic features such as mountains and fresh water resources into consideration when deciding where you will go.

At the current time, relatively few analysts think that North Korea has a vehicle capable of reaching the eastern areas of the United States. Most also think North Korea has not yet developed a MERV device, so it is likely you will be dealing with a single detonation as opposed to a localized pattern.

On the other hand, a strike far enough into the west coast can still bring a lot of radiation to the eastern areas in a matter of a day or two. It is important to know how to get to the mountains or other areas where air and water currents from the west will be mainly blocked out.

Prepare for Radiation Sickness

You can start preparing for radiation sickness by having potassium iodide tablets on hand. Even though you will not need them until a nuclear event happens, it is still important to have them on hand. If you live close enough to a nuclear power plant, they may give them out for free if you ask for them.

There are also some vitamins (E and C) that can help reduce the effects of nuclear radiation, however they are best taken beforehand. Do not take more than the recommended amounts of these vitamins as some can be poisonous if you take too much.

See our articles on foods and vitamins for prepping to see what you need to be consuming right now, as well as which foods are best to store. Fortunately, the most useful vitamins for nuclear prepping can be found in a good quality multi-vitamin.

Just make sure that you include a new bottle in your food cache so that you have an uncontaminated supply at your shelter location.

Overall, treatment for radiation sickness will entail managing symptoms such as nausea, vomit, cough, and bleeding. To keep things as simple as possible, buy extra of any OTC medications you use for the most common symptoms and keep them in your shelter area. This includes any herbal remedies that you may already have experience with.

There are also some medications you can use to remove radiation from your body if you become exposed to it. The cheapest and easiest to obtain will be activated carbon capsules and zeolite capsules. When using zeolites, bear in mind, however, that it can be carcinogenic. Try not to use zeolites for a prolonged period of time.

Build a Radiation Detector

The fastest and cheapest way to build a radiation detector is to follow the designs for a Kearny Fallout Meter.

Try to build at least three or four of them, and place them in different areas. Once you know how to read the meters, it will be easier to determine when radiation levels are elevated in your area.

If you have some extra money, you can also buy a device that will attach to your cell phone that will act like a Geiger counter.

Secure a 5 Day Food Supply

One of the most important things you can do is store away at least five days worth of food. Stick to canned, dried, or powdered foods that do not require heating.

At least half of your food choices should be items that will shield your body from radiation or remove it from your body. It may also help to store away a few MREs for more balance. Sadly, I would not necessarily recommend putting food in a bug out bag, as it will get contaminated by radiation while you are moving to a place of safety.

Store your foods in your fallout shelter, and the remainder under at least 6 feet of dirt, and then retrieve when it is safe to do so.

Water Cleaning During a Nuclear Disaster

The cheapest way to remove nuclear radiation from water is to use uncontaminated dirt. Zeolites and activated carbon will also remove some radiation. Later on, when you emerge from your shelter, the best thing you can do is distill the water.

Even though this will not remove tritium, it will still get rid of all the other nuclear contaminants. It is also very important to have a 5 day supply of bottled water in your fallout shelter.

The plastic bottles will shield the water from the radiation. Be sure to wipe all dust off the bottles so that you do no contaminate the water with any fallout that may have gotten into the shelter.

Secure Decontamination and Hygiene Essentials

With the exception of Gamma radiation, almost all other radiation will be trapped by your clothes. Therefore, it is very important to have a change of clothes in your shelter.

The most effective decontamination is a long shower and scrubbing with lye soap. Since it is not likely you will be able to create an underground piping system for this purpose in a day, your best bet will be to make sure as much of your skin and hair as possible remain covered with white fabric.

Include a bandanna or scarf (preferably sari cloth as it can also double as a water filter) that you can quickly and easily slip over your nose and mouth to block out as much dust as possible. Even weaker Alpha and Beta radiation particles can wreak havoc if they get into your body via your mouth or nose.

Insofar as hygiene, store away wet wipes and other aides for keeping yourself as clean as possible without using water. It will also be useful to store away bags that can be used for urine and stool as you will not want them building up in the shelter. These can be pushed into an adjoining tunnel from your living area, and then sealed off with dirt or a door.

As much as you may be tempted to find a way to put these bags above ground, I do not recommend it. They can leave you open to detection by people above ground. You will also be exposed to radiation each time you emerge from the earth.

Be Ready to Defend Yourself

If you have a gun and ammo, you will be ahead of the game. That being said, it is also important to store away knives and anything else you can use as a weapon. Try to practice basic self defense moves now and do what you can to brush up on your situation awareness skills. Even 15 minutes of practice each day can be of benefit.

Depending on where you live and the severity of the blast in your area, it is possible that people will be roving around while you are still underground. These people are likely to be looking for food, medicine, and water. Even if they are suffering from radiation sickness and have just a few days to live, do not be surprised if they try to get into your shelter to steal from you.

Do what you can to disguise your shelter so that no one can find it once you enter it. If you have neighbors, it will be best to dig and work on your shelter during night hours or other times when no one knows what you are doing.

Communications and Gathering Information

Other than medical devices, your phone and radios are the most common electronic survival tools that will be damaged by an EMP.

Be sure to put an unlocked smart phone, a mobile SIM (Freedom Pop gives you free minutes and time every month), and backup computer files in an EMP proof bag, and store them in your shelter.

Even if cell service and internet go down, you can still use the phone for accessing digital files. Most web pages can be easily saved as PDF files, and it is also possible to download many useful YouTube videos for viewing offline. Build your library now of information that you may need while you are in the shelter, and once you emerge.

It is also important to store away a radio that gets AM and FM bands. If the radio is based on transistors or IC circuits, it should also go in an EMP proof bag. Include a solar battery charger and sufficient rechargeable (and fully charged) batteries to last 5 days for all your devices.

You may not be able to use the solar charger during the first five days of a nuclear crisis, but you can use it once you emerge from your shelter. Since crank radios can be quite expensive, you may be better served by storing away simple materials that you can use to build a foxhole radio and a simple transmitter.

Right now there are several things you can integrate into your daily life to prepare for a nuclear emergency. There are also some cheap, fast things you can do in a weekend that will put you well ahead of anyone else that makes no effort at all this direction.

While these suggestions will not take you much past five days, they are an important start that will give you an advantage that can still be wielded once you emerge from your shelter.

Americans Will Have To Make Some Tough Choices On How They’ll Go About Surviving When Basic Necessities Become Nearly Unaffordable

A group of influential economic experts has discovered what they call a” frightening pattern” that they say will be unlike anything ever seen. They have presented their findings to the U.N. and a long list of world governments and indicate that this collapse could happen before the November elections in the U.S.

One member of the team, Chris Martenson, stated, “We found an identical pattern in our debt, total credit market, and money supply that guarantees they’re going to fail. This pattern is nearly the same as in any pyramid scheme, one that escalates exponentially fast before it collapses. Governments around the globe are chiefly responsible.”

“And what’s really disturbing about these findings is that the pattern isn’t limited to our economy. We found the same catastrophic pattern in our energy, food, and water systems as well. For 30 years – from the 1940s through the 1970s – our total credit market debt was moderate and entirely reasonable,” he says. “But then in seven years, from 1970 to 1977, it quickly doubled. And then it doubled again in seven more years. Then five years to double a third time. And then it doubled two more times after that. Where we were sitting at a total credit market debt that was 158% larger than our GDP in the early 1940s… By 2011 that figure was 357%.”

“Most frightening of all is how this exact same pattern keeps appearing in virtually every system critical to our society and way of life,” Dr. Moors stated. “It’s a pattern that’s hard to see unless you understand the way a catastrophe like this gains traction. At first, it’s almost impossible to perceive. Everything looks fine, just like in every pyramid scheme. Yet the insidious growth of the virus keeps doubling in size, over and over again – in shorter and shorter periods of time – until it hits unsustainable levels. And it collapses the system.”

Fitz-Gerald says, “If our research is right, Americans will have to make some tough choices on how they’ll go about surviving when basic necessities become nearly unaffordable and the economy becomes dangerously unstable. People need to begin to make preparations with their investments, retirement savings, and personal finances before it’s too late”.

When everything collapses at the same time the primary need will be food. The disruption of transportation and distribution systems will create a nation of very desperate people that may be capable of anything. When the distribution of food stops the only way to feed yourself is to already have food stores and/or the ability to grow your own. The worst time for a collapse of the food system is in the fall and winter months. During the spring and summer months it is possible to grow some food locally just about anywhere but when the weather turns cold, if you do not already have food stores or a winter garden in place, you are more likely to starve. The winter weather will not only prevent local food production in most areas of the country but the lack of systems to provide fuel and keep the roads clear of snow and ice can prevent the relocation of people to other areas making them prisoners wherever they are. People will be without food at the time of year when their bodies need even more to keep warm.

This is only one aspect of a complete collapse and does not even get into the lack of heat for warmth and cooking, water , power and security issues that will be prevalent everywhere. While a collapse will stretch your coping ability to new limits, it will be far worse if it happens in the colder months of the year. The lack of preparations by a majority of the population will be nothing short of catastrophic because those people have simply refused to listen to the warnings up to now. For those that have prepared it will be difficult to have sympathy for those that ignored the warnings and continued life as usual.

Once the system collapses it will be difficult to restart and will probably be led by the local production and distribution of food and water. This will likely follow a massive die off of the sick, elderly and very young that will have a difficult time coping until things improve. If you are in one of these groups you may not get another chance to stock up on the critical items you need to live so use this time wisely. As dire as this sounds, the situation will in all likelihood be much more severe and dangerous for the unprepared and prepared alike. If you have not done so yet, prepare now.

Simply having supplies piled up in preparation for some occurrence is not enough to insure your survival. There are several other things you must keep in mind and balance out among your preparations.

You must imagine the potential catastrophic possibilities
You must prepare yourself mentally to deal with whatever happens
You must have knowledge of how best to employ your resources
You need to use your imagination to think outside the box
You must be able to improvise, adapt and overcome obstacles
You must have a flexible plan to guide you

Many people have spewed hateful rhetoric at preppers over the years and today some are finding themselves in dire circumstances as infrastructure and supplies are cut off for an indefinite period of time. Those unprepared individuals have few options and now rely on the actions of others to insure their survival.

As many in the Caribbean can now attest to, having to wait for help to come from hundreds or even thousands of miles away is slow and stressful to those who wait. They do not know when help will arrive and what resources will be available when they arrive. It could take years for many locations to return to some type of normalcy and this is at a time when help is available and forthcoming. What happens when that help is not available following an event?

In the world we now live in the bulk of the population is conditioned to wait for help to come. They are not encouraged to perform self help to minimize their suffering. This leads to many more victims to deal with overloading services and resources available to the public. This is happening in good times. What happens when things deteriorate and no help is available to communities or cities? What will happen when people and equipment do not come because damage is wide scale? What happens when all expendable resources are exhausted and cannot be replaced?

Preppers already know the answers to those questions and that is why they prepare. They know that someday an event could happen where no help will be available and they will be on their own for weeks or months. They know if something happens, what they have on hand is all they will likely have to work with for the duration. They know those that have not planned will be victims and most will expect someone to help them and their family. This creates a difficult situation for preppers and victims alike.

The act of learned helplessness is the only thing many people know today and that will lead to a reduced chance of survival for many depending on the depth of the event. A prepper can only do so much to help others in this type of situation but the main thing they possess are the leadership qualities and survival skills the masses need to come through the situation.

Following an event there will be a certain number of survivors that will see the light and understand what preppers have been trying to tell them for years. These people will differ from those that will still have the entitlement mentality and expect others to care for them and provide resources they need. These newly enlightened individuals are the ones that preppers will be able to help the most.

The true leaders in society will be able to direct these individuals on courses of action that will allow them to slowly recover and build up some resilience over time. These are the actions that will be necessary to reduce the chaos in society and provide some stabilization. These people will help provide a buffer between preppers and the hostile unprepared masses that manage to survive.

Make no mistake about it. There will be groups with varying mindsets roaming about following an event and it is advantageous to have as many of them on your side as possible. There is little you can do about the entitled victims except defend against their actions. In this case, there will be safety in numbers.

While a prepper cannot foresee every problem, they can plan ahead and set aside some resources that can help solidify your leadership among those you are able to work with. This could take the form of setting aside a few drums of bulk grains like oats or beans that can be purchased cheaply now but will allow you to feed a small group of people a basic meal for several weeks. The small price of a few drums of grain could buy a lot of goodwill.

Being able to provide clean drinking water to a small group by purchasing a good spare water filter will help eliminate the spread of disease among the group. Having a few medications that can help a few individuals that do manage to become sick will mean a lot to their families. Having a few extra radios that the group can share will help with security for everyone. Having a means to provide a small power source for lighting or battery recharging could mean a great deal to those with no power. In some locations having an extra wood stove to share and some wood will provide these people with heat and cooking ability.

There are many little things that could be worth a great deal to unprepared survivors that will help to stabilize their situation and insure they do not become a hostile force you would eventually have to deal with. You may not be able to help everyone or provide everything they need but being able to help a few can have long term benefits.

In a survival situation there will be many that become threats to you no matter what you do but the more you can eliminate from that potential pool the safer life will be for you. No matter what type of event takes place or how long the effects last eventually there will come a time of stabilization. The type of people in control of that stable situation could be a good thing or a very bad thing. As a prepper you could have a lot of influence over the outcome.

Is America Turning Into a Communist Country?

Communism hit center stage with the Russian revolution, as first Vladimir Lenin and then Joseph Stalin remade Russia into the image created by Karl Marx. This didn’t affect us here in the USA much until World War II, when we were uncomfortable allies with Russia. Even then, there were those who saw communism as being the political savior for all mankind. But it wasn’t until World War II ended and the Cold War began, that we clearly saw the juxtaposition of capitalism versus communism in the world.

Ever since then, there have been those in this county who have been pushing for us to become one more socialist country in the world. They hold up socialism as the shining light, where all people are treated equally. The government exists only to make sure that happens.

But even then, there is an elite in any communist government. Someone has to make the decisions about who gets what and those people always take care of themselves first. While socialism or even communism might be a great theory, it requires perfect people; and the world has always had a shortage of those.

Yet there are those in our political system, who still proclaim socialism as the way to go. They make it sound better by calling it “democratic socialism.” But all it takes is a look at other countries who have gone socialist to see what that means; you can vote it in, but you can’t vote it out.

Nevertheless, they try to make their political ideology look good by promising lots of freebies, not letting people know that they are going to have to pay exorbitant taxes to get those freebies. Rather, they claim that the rich, who don’t pay “their fair share” will pay them. Yet every time politicians talk about raising taxes on the rich, it is the middle class who feels the pinch, not the wealthy.

To the low-information voter, especially the low-income, low-information voter, this all sounds good. They get free health care, free birth control, free education, free phones, free food and free income, and someone else has to pay for it. What could be better?

Interestingly enough, over the last century, every socialist or communist government has gotten into power by proclaiming their concern for the poor. This gave them a large pool of low-information voters they could count on, so that they could get voted into office. They lied to their followers regularly, both about their own intentions and those of the opposing party. All that mattered was that they got into power. We could be seeing the same thing happening here.

So, is the United States on its way to becoming a communist country, as some would like?

As I look back over the last 50 years, I can see where we Americans have lost a lot of our freedoms. Every time the government expands, taking over another part of society, it does so at the cost of individual and state freedom. It doesn’t matter if we’re talking about the IRS or the EPA; they get their power by stealing our freedom.

In that sense, you can say that we are already on the road towards communism and have been so for quite some time. A major step towards getting us there was Obama’s signature healthcare law. Never intended to work, the Unaffordable Healthcare Act was merely supposed to be a stepping stone towards a single-payer healthcare system, which would allow the federal government to take full control of 17.9% of our economy.

Basically all that Obamacare has done for the country is raise the cost of health insurance and medical care. Yes, it did give some people who were previously denied health insurance coverage by insurance companies the legal right to buy insurance. Yet that could have been done at a much lower cost and without having to hire 30,000 new IRS agents, further bloating an already oppressive government agency, in the process.

Even regulatory agencies like the Department of Education can be seen to be pushing our country towards socialism and then communism. These agencies do nothing more than take the power to make decisions out of the hands of US citizens and our local governments. One of their main ways of doing this is by controlling tax dollars. Money passed out to state and local governments by these agencies always comes with a price; one of toeing the line on some regulation or other.

Part of the problem here is that once a government agency is established, it is all but impossible to shut it down. Take the EPA for example. It can be fairly argued that there was a need for the EPA, when it was founded by President Nixon in 1970. But since then, the majority of the work that the EPA originally did has been taken over by state governments, leaving the bloated federal bureaucracy in place to spend taxpayer money and create stifling regulations.

The new House of Representatives seems to be making a greater push for the government to take over other parts of our economy as well. Some representatives have even gone so far as to float the idea of taking over major corporations, “for the good of the people.” Should this actually happen, it will be the sign that our country is actively being taken over by a communistic government.

If we keep doing that, we’re going to find ourselves backed into a corner; actually several corners. The first corner will be the elimination of our First Amendment freedom of speech. The “PC Police” are already at work on this, using “political correctness” and “hate speech” to silence those who don’t agree with them.

Totalitarian authority can’t handle disagreement, so they have to criminalize that disagreement in order to silence it. Everyone will be forced to toe the party line, saying what they’re supposed to say, as if they believe it. They won’t be satisfied with us being quiet, but rather insist that we say things their way.

Once they’ve accomplished that, it will be easier for them to take the next big roadblock to communism out of the way, our Second Amendment rights. Totalitarian governments must always disarm the people, so that they can keep control. As Mao Zedong, the first communist leader of China said, “political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.”

Without guns, what can any of us do to stop anything the government wants to do? The Second Amendment was given to us for this purpose. If those in power are going to get the power that they want, they have to take it out of our hands. That’s why the gun grabbers always attacks the AR-15 rifle, rather than pistols or shotguns. You can’t fight a war with pistols; you need rifles for that. As long as we are armed with rifles, we are a danger to the totalitarian communist government they crave.

The real question boils down to what we are going to do when they come for our freedom of speech and our freedom to bear arms?

Top 5 worst fears events that I think are a realistic possibility for 2020 – and a couple of them could test all our prepping to the limits

Traditionally this is a time for optimism, and we all have dreams and ambitions for what we’d like to see happening in 2020. I know I do, and whatever you’re hoping for next year, I hope it works out for you.

We need to be realistic, though; bad stuff happens, too. In fact, it’s accepting this that unites us as preppers. We’re not in denial about what the world’s really like; we know things can go wrong, and we’ve made the decision to be ready when they do. What might go wrong in 2020? Well, who knows? That’s why we try to be prepared against every possible catastrophe.

That said, there are a few things that particularly worry me about the coming twelve months. Some of them are likelier than others, but they’re all events that I think are a realistic possibility for 2020 – and a couple of them could test all our prepping to the limits. Maybe you have your own worries for the next year – if you do, feel free to share them in the comments. Anyway, here are my top five.

Financial Collapse

Thanks to our politicians, the USA is on the verge of a financial collapse – and has been for decades. We have the largest, most innovative and most dynamic economy in the world, yet somehow there’s always too much debt and not enough money.

Next year has a few special dangers, though. A lot of economists expect another recession, possibly a serious one. That would be bad news, with a lot of people joining the unemployment lines and many more facing financial hardship. Our welfare systems would definitely creak under the strain, but I don’t think they would break – quiet.

There are worse possibilities than a recession, though. The stock market has been climbing for three years – overheating, some say. Now there are signs of a downturn coming. The Standard & Poor 500 is heading for its worst annual performance since 2008, and we all know how good a year that was for the global economy.

Our economy and financial system are incredibly complex – and that makes them incredibly vulnerable. We were lucky in 2008; it was bad, but didn’t lead to a Depression-style collapse. There’s no guarantee we’ll be lucky next time.

Civil Unrest

It’s okay to not like President Trump. That’s one of the great things about living in a free country; you can not like the guy that won the election, and secret policemen won’t drag you out of your bed at 3am and throw you in a re-education camp.

The problem is we now have a load of political extremists who don’t stop at not liking our president; they absolutely hate him, and they think anything is justified if it gets him out of office. That’s why civil unrest is becoming a real problem in the USA. Groups like Antifa think it’s OK to turn to violence if democracy doesn’t give the result they want – and they seem to be multiplying.

What really worries me is how the far left might react to President Trump winning a second term in the 2020 election, but there’s no guarantee things will stay calm that long. It’s hard to predict what will trigger a reaction from the extremists. Will they try to kick off widespread civil unrest if funding for the border wall goes through? What about a successful military intervention somewhere in the Middle East, or good news on the economy that makes a Trump victory look more likely?

The far left aren’t capable of overthrowing the USA right now, but they can shut down city centers for at least a couple of days – and if they push hard, they could reduce counties, even some states, to anarchy for long enough that society would start falling apart. If that happens everyone in the trouble zone is going to need to rely on their own resources until the trouble is fixed.

Attack by a Rogue State

We talk about EMP attacks a lot on this site, because it’s one of the most serious threats we face – not as devastating as a full-on nuclear attack, but a lot more likely. An EMP strike is something a determined rogue state, or even a well-organized terrorist group, could pull off. Terrorists would probably only manage to detonate one or two devices, affecting part of the country, but somewhere like North Korea might be able to black out most of the USA.

The threat from rogue states isn’t just EMP, either. What about a nuclear attack on a major US city? Sure, emergency services will flood the area, but things are still going to break down badly. Between refugees from the devastated city, and residents in the surrounding areas hunkering down in case there’s another attack, society is going to pretty much stop working. Unless you feel like relying on the feds for help, you need to be able to take care of yourself for at least a few weeks.

Epidemic

Remember the 2014 Ebola epidemic in West Africa? Most people sort of do, but it’s fading from our memories pretty fast. That doesn’t surprise me, because it didn’t really affect us here in the USA. Yes, a couple of people who’d traveled to the plague region got sick in America, and one died in a Dallas hospital, but apart from that life went on pretty much as normal.

What most people don’t realize is just how big a bullet we dodged. The man who died had caught the disease in Liberia then lied his way onto a plane – but before he was diagnosed, two of the nurses who treated him had been infected. Both survived, but one of them had taken two internal flights before she ended up in isolation.

We were lucky in 2014, but what if, next time someone with a lethal tropical disease gets on a flight to Cleveland, they infect a dozen of their fellow passengers? These new victims will go home, or get on connecting flights, and spread the contagion even further. By the time anyone notices this new epidemic the disease could be spreading from hundreds of focal points across the country, and that would totally overload our healthcare system. The most likely result is mass panic and civil disorder.

Natural Disaster

In a country the size of the USA we get natural disasters every year. Mostly that’s winter storms, or hurricanes up the East Coast – but there’s a lot more that could go wrong. We can just about cope with severe weather events, or wildfires that affect large parts of a state, but a disaster that hit three or four states hard would overwhelm us. So, what’s going to happen if ten states are involved, or 20, or the whole country?

There are disasters that could cause havoc across the entire United States. A solar coronal mass ejection taking down the power grid – especially in winter – would be one of them. The eruption of the Yellowstone supervolcano is potentially another, and that could happen at any time. If it does, and half the country is suddenly blanketed in volcanic ash, all of us are on our own. The disruption will cause total collapse everywhere that isn’t hit by the eruption, and inside the ash field itself there isn’t going to be any help on its way for a long time.

There are plenty more things that could go wrong next year, but these are the ones I take most seriously. They’re all plausible, and they could all easily cause the kind of collapse that we’ve been preparing for. I try to be prepared for anything, but I’m extra careful to be prepared for events like these.

15 Remedies for Radiation Exposure: Each Of These Remedies Should Be Begun Immediately Upon A Nuclear Event Or Exposure

Some nuclear events are survivable.

Much depends on the type of event and your proximity to ground zero. Event possibilities range from dirty bombs that may distribute radiation over a small area, to nuclear accidents and nuclear weapon detonation that create large amounts of destruction and contamination. Your first goal is to avoid nuclear fallout, so you should take shelter immediately following a nuclear event. Then, you must mitigate the exposure that you do receive. Stay informed of local recommendations for your area, but be aware that your local news reporting may be designed to prevent mass panic, rather than give the best advice.

Harmful Effects of Radiation Exposure

The harmful effects of radiation exposure are many and varied. Some effects go unnoticed, only to cause cancers months or years later.

Before exposure and immediately after exposure, you should act quickly to prevent absorption and remove radioactive substances from the body. There are a number of supplements and compounds that can help you detoxify and prevent damage. Each acts differently and some, like Iodine, are specific to only one radioisotope, so plan to use all of these methods, or as many as possible, for best results.

The Law of Selective Uptake

One important principle in protecting the body from the absorption of nuclear isotopes is the law of selective uptake. Reduced to bare bones, it means that radioactive isotopes look like nutrients to the body, so if the body is deficient, it will grab hold of the isotope and use it in the body. You can prevent this absorption by taking extra doses of the nutrients. Iodine supplements protect against iodine-131, cesium-137 mimics potassium in the body, strontium-90 mimics calcium, Plutonium-239 mimics iron, and cobalt-60 mimics vitamin B-12. Your first line of defense it to be nutritionally sound and take supplements for these minerals or vitamin when exposure is imminent or immediately following exposure.

We’ll talk about these supplements in more detail below:

#1. Iodine

A nuclear or radiological event can release large amounts of Iodine-131 into the atmosphere. This radioactive iodine is quickly absorbed by the thyroid creating problems for the body immediately or even years later.

Researchers investigating the Chernobyl nuclear accident found that potassium Iodide reduced thyroid exposure to radiation with minimal side effects. Taking a dose of potassium Iodide or nascent iodine before the event or immediately after can fill the iodine receptors on the thyroid and prevent absorption of radioactive Iodine-131. Nascent iodine is the most bioavailable form of iodine for this purpose, but potassium iodide (KI) is often recommended as well. One dose protects the body for 24 hours. If exposure is ongoing, daily doses will be needed, follow the recommendations of local authorities.

#2. Potassium

Potassium supplements protect the body from exposure to Cesium-137, another radioactive isotope that is commonly found in the environment following a nuclear event. Since cesium-137 mimics potassium in the body, immediate doses saturate the body with potassium and prevent absorption of cesium-137. Rich potassium sources in the diet is a good first line of defense, but it may not be enough. Potassium Orotate is the best form of potassium supplements to use for radiation exposure. Follow dosing guidelines on the product you choose, since too much potassium can have ill effects.

#3. Calcium and Magnesium

Calcium and magnesium protect the body from absorbing Strontium-90. Supplementing with these nutrients has been proven to reduce strontium-90 absorption by up to 90 percent. As mentioned earlier strontium-90 mimics calcium, but these two minerals work together and need to be balanced, so for best results take daily supplements of both of these minerals.

#4. Iron

Some women take iron on a regular basis, but most men do not need regular supplementation. However, in a nuclear event, iron supplements can prevent the uptake of Plutonium-239. Take a daily iron supplement during exposure, but consult a physician about long term use.

#5. Vitamin B-12

A fast absorbing vitamin B-12 supplement, such as Methylcobalamin can protect the body from exposure to cobalt-60. Cobalt-60 is a product of nuclear reactors, so exposure could come from an accident at a nuclear reactor. It is also used in radiation therapy and could come from a spill or a dirty bomb. Take vitamin B-12 daily, following the label recommendations.

#6. Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO)

Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) is a controversial sulfur compound that has been shown to actively detoxify the body and protect against the harmful effects of radiation. Animal studies show that DMSO protects DNA from breakage due to radiation exposure and guards against cell destruction. A Japanese study showed that even low doses of DMSO provide protection against radiation damage at a cellular level and can facilitate DNA repair. More research into DMSO is needed, but so far the results are promising. The FDA has not approved it’s use except for preservation of transplant organs and for cases of interstitial cystitis. If you choose to use DMSO, look for pure sources containing no other solvents, except possibly a small amount of water.

#7. Zeolite Clay

Zeolites clean the body of toxins and radioactive particles in the same way they clean the environment. Their porous structure and affinity for positive ions allow them to bind toxins and nuclear waste to them and remove them as they pass through the body. Zeolite Clay can be safely taken internally and was widely used for detoxification at Chernobyl. In addition to detoxifying the body, it is useful in removing nuclear contamination from the environment and can be used to mop floors and clean walls in contaminated areas.

#8. Other Clays

Bentonite, Fuller’s Earth, Kaolin, red clay, French Green Clay, and other clays are also effective at binding nuclear waste and removing it from the body.  Clay particles are negatively charged, so positively charged radioactive ions are attracted to them. They can be taken internally or used to scrub down the body to remove external contamination. Clay’s are considered safe to consume, but be sure to purchase a pure, food grade clay.

#9. Activated Charcoal

Activated charcoal is useful for absorbing and neutralizing a number of poisons and toxins, including radiation. Studies show that activated charcoal is able to neutralize up to 70 percent of its weight in radioactive toxins. Other uses for activated charcoal include: natural remedy for dental infections, kidneys infections, ear infections, lowers blood pressures, water purifier and many more.

#10. Papain

Papain is a natural enzyme found in papaya fruit and known for its ability to reduce toxins. Studies in mice show that it helps exposed mice survive lethal radiation doses. Early research suggests that papain reduces skin reactions and other side effects following radiation therapy.

#11. Bee Pollen

Recent studies suggest that bee pollen is effective in preventing and relieving the negative effects of radiation therapies by boosting the body’s defenses and supporting natural functions and it could provide these same benefits after a nuclear event.

#12. Beets

Beets are excellent sources of antioxidants, which can help protect the body from the stresses of radiation exposure. They also help the body rebuild hemoglobin broken down as a result of exposure. Animal studies show that rats eating a diet heavy in beets had less effects after exposure to cesium-137. They were able to absorb and detoxify up to twice the radiation dose of the control group.

#13. Cold-pressed Organic Vegetable Oils

Olive oil, coconut oil, sesame oil and other healthy oils offer some protection during and after radiation exposure. Lipids in the oils offer protection to individual cells, lining the cell membrane and binding toxins before they can cause cell damage. Animal studies show that mice fed oil are protected from doses of x-rays ranging from 300 to 2,400 roentgens and can survive lethal doses. The recommendation is to drink ½ cup of oil as soon as possible after exposure.

#14. Organic Germanium-132

Organic Germanium-132 is an ultra-modern mineral that increases oxygenation of the cells, supports the immune system and helps the body get rid of toxins, including radiation. Recent studies in the US and Japan have been experimenting with doses of 500 to 1000 mg per day for various medical conditions, but current recommendations in Japan are that exposed individuals take 100 mg daily of Organic Germanium-132.

It is important to note that only organic germanium is recommended here. Inorganic germanium is highly toxic. In minerals, the term organic has a different meaning than in food and inorganic germanium is a completely different compound.

#15. Prussian Blue

Prussian Blue, also known as ferric ferrocyanide, is useful as an antidote for Cesium-137 when the radioactive isotope has been ingested. In the Brazilian Goiânia incident, researchers found that treatment with up to 10 grams of Prussian Blue daily removed up to 70 percent of the Cesium-137 from the body and reduced it’s effects accordingly. This is an experimental antidote for use only in cases of known exposure to cesium-137.

#16. Organic Brewers Yeast

Some sources recommend organic Brewers yeast for preventing the effects of radiation and helping the body repair after exposure. Give 5 to 15 mg to children and 25 to 50 mg to adults. For cases of known exposure, this dose can be safely doubled or even tripled.

Other Recommendations

During and following a nuclear event, nutrition and general health are vitally important. Eating fruits and vegetables containing high amounts of antioxidants will help protect the body from the harmful effects of radiation. Obviously, do not consume plants that have been exposed to fallout or grown in contaminated soil, but frozen, dried, freeze-dried and safe fresh produce are healthy and give the body systems a boost.

For best results, each of these remedies should be begun immediately upon a nuclear event or exposure. Preparation is key. You should have these ingredients on hand before an event along with instructions on how to use them.

When Worst Comes To Worst-Surviving When The Government Shutdown. Surviving Without The Rule Of Law

As I sit here writing this, the government is shut down. I know you’ve probably heard about it and if you’re like me, you’re wondering what’s the big deal. After all, what most of us would really like to say is some version of “So what?” “Good riddance” or “We don’t need them” in response. But the reality is that we need the government; perhaps now more than ever.

What’s So Tough About Surviving Without The Government?

Don’t get me wrong; I’m no big fan of the government, especially not of big government. As far as I’m concerned, most of the regulatory agencies in the government do nothing useful. They merely take our money to pay their extravagant salaries and expense accounts. Nevertheless, even those agencies have a place in modern society, or at least some of the functions they perform do.

Sadly, we need a few of these regulatory agencies because our country is not currently populated by the moral and religious people that John Adams said our Constitution was written for. Since there are many who lack self-government, we need someone to keep them in line.

“Our Constitution was made for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

In reality, only a small portion of the government is out of operation. The rest is functioning under partial spending bills which came into effect late last year. Even some of the parts where there is no money to pay workers are still open for business. Moreover, authorities have promised to pay those government workers as soon as Washington approves the budget. They are working because their functions are critical. So, it is illegal for them to leave their posts, even without pay.

Surviving Without The Government During A Total Shutdown

Notwithstanding, what if the government was really shut down? What if something so bad happened that the entire government shut down? What would happen then?

The government exists to do things that we can’t do for ourselves. On a national level, the most important of those are national defense and representing our interests with other countries. At lower levels of government, the most important thing that happens is to protect us from criminal activity through the capture and prosecution of criminals. If the government were to go down, those functions would cease to exist.

Granted, there are a lot of other important things that the government does. Another example would be the municipal water authorities who supply clean drinking water. Nonetheless, these things all pale in comparison to the problems which would exist without the government present to enforce the rule of law.

Surviving Without The Government Means Surviving Without The Rule Of Law

The first thing that happens in countries which lose their governments is that they lose this rule of law. Everything else that happens to them follows after that. Without the government in place and the rule of law, other services that the government provides come to a screeching stop.

However, nature abhors a vacuum and so does humanity. If there is no government in power, there will be people who move in to take control. It has happened over and over again. These people are usually called warlords. By and large, they are nothing more than gang leaders backed by a bunch of bullies with guns. Rival groups fight against each other, thereby seeking to take control. Everything else collapses since these warlords and their backers don’t know how to keep it running. Ultimately, they are more interested in power than anything else. They are thugs and nothing more.

Consequently, surviving in a world without government means surviving in a world run by these warlords. How do we do that? You can forget about bugging in and hoping they will leave you alone. One of the things that warlords always do is steal from people. It’s no different than the mafia making people pay for protection. Once they find out that you have anything of value, they’ll come to take it away. As a result, there are only a few things that you can do.

Surviving Without The Government: Should You Just Join The Bad Guys?

The first option is to join them… which is not a very good option. This entails being just as bad as they are and treating others just as poorly as they do. It also means giving them everything you have. If you kept it for yourself you would show that you aren’t really a part of the group. The leader would decide what you got to keep and I doubt it would be anything worthwhile.

Surviving Without The Government: If You Can’t Join Them, Beat Them

The best time to defeat any warlord or gang that tries to move in is as soon as they arrive and before they can consolidate their power and grow their ranks. You may not want to join them, but there are always people who will, seeing that as the only way to survive. No matter how many followers that warlord has when he arrives, that will be the point where he is at his weakest. It will also be the time when he has the least knowledge of the area. As a consequence, you will have your greatest advantage at that point.

You probably won’t be able to defeat them on your own unless you have a strong survival group. This would consist of individuals who are experts in military operations. Rather, you’ll need to gather other armed citizens together and form a militia to defend your homes and community. This strategy will have to include killing off the invaders before they can kill you off.

When Worst Comes To Worst, Build A New Government

Gathering that militia together is the first step of the next option, along with building a new local government. Men cannot coexist without some sort of governmental order. This is because the rule of law can’t exist without some sort of governmental authority. Even in communes and other social experiments where groups of people have tried to separate themselves from society, there was still some form of leadership and government, even if it was informal.

Whether your existing local government becomes part of this new government or not will depend on the strength, ability, and character of the people in it. Those who feel a responsibility to their community will try to do what they can to establish order and protect the people. Those who don’t have that moral conviction will inevitably fail to do so.

This may seem strange, but for your own protection, you need to be concerned about the safety of your community. I realize that this goes against the isolationist attitude that is typical of preppers, but it is necessary. If there is no local government to protect you, you’ll have to protect yourself. While you may be able to do that against 10 or 12 people trying to steal your food, there’s no way you can do it against 20 or 30 armed ruffians under a warlord.

Out Of Options? Try Bugging Out And Getting Away From The Chaos

Finally, your best option might just be to bug out and get away. Of course, that means having someplace to bug out to. You’ll need a place where you and your family can live in peace, perhaps with your survival team. But that means having a prepared survival retreat you can go to which is equipped and supplied with enough to get you going.

Even then, you will need to establish some sort of governmental order within your survival team or community, along with the ability to defend yourself. Unless you can get away to a place that is sufficiently isolated enough to guarantee that those warlords can’t find you, they eventually will. Then you will be in the fight of your life just to survive.
